You know it's probably best to start from the beginning even though we already started; )
So best I can remember I must have maybe;) seen a post some how on www.therpf.com. So not remembering so much of the start, how about we start here:) I saw that there was a thread started where a member was creating his own Retaliation Cobra Commander Helmet. Then I also found David (owner) and President of UD Replicas - Universal Designs Ltd.The parent Company of UD Replicas has his Own forum thread there, where he posts updates or Dare I Say press releases?
Then I found that UD Replicas has a Facebook page but I don't get many notifications, but that doesn't stop me from checking the page at least once a week;)
Well as Much as UD Replicas rocks you must know your required to either pay the whole cost of your pre-order or pay as part of a payment plan before your jacket is made. Also since such small editions of the Items are made at this time UD Replicas does not take exchanges. Yet you will also see every attempt of making you aware of That fact before your order is placed. They want you to call 905-751-1800 and get help from the owner David with sizing. Which I did, it took sometime as it was during convention season, and holidays. but don't give up keep posting to the Facebook page within reason and you will be seen. Also the earlier you call during the day seems to work better:) So this is what I did and got to talk to David, which at least at this time is who anyone and everyone will talk to when needing help with sizing. David recommended a large of course I would have liked a medium mostly because I would like to be thinner and am worried I will look like "Out of shape cobra commander" and not "Real".
Besides not being at the size I would like myself to be, it at least appears to me as though the previous Jackets like Batman Begins™ Pre Suit Replica Nomex Design and the Superman™ Leather Street Jacket
add extra "Heft" but one finger crossing moment is that the model used for the Superman™ Leather Street Jacket
is the same model used for the Cobra Commander: Movie Replica Leather Trench Coat. It still remands to be seen if it will work in my favor but much like the Cobra Commander Trench, it could be the cut of the Jacket that could end up deciding how Big I look in it before and after I loose the weight. Another example of a Tighter or slimmer cut Is the
Baroness: Movie Replica Leather Trench Coat Which at this time is the "only offering for woman" But go like the UD Replicas - Universal Designs Ltd. Facebook page as we have seen glimpses of other more "Female targeted projects"
Another reason I was worried about buying a Large was that the waist on the large version of the
Cobra Commander: Movie Replica Leather Trench Coat. is listed as a 40 and a Half inches. Well in the nicest way possible that is huge to me! I would have liked more to have gone with the Medium which lists the waist as 38 and a half inches which to me is still big as I think I could get down to a 36 inch waist. Besides this being a once it a lifetime thing. This was also around the time of my wedding. Where I went through having to get my Tuxedo online and went from a Jacket Size: 48 Regular to a Jacket Size: 44 Regular so you can see where hesitation to go with what I am getting is Essentially a "46 Cobra Commander: Movie Replica Leather Trench Coat"
So besides not being able to try things on when you first buy something online we have to look out for not only this, and cut but also something called
Vanity sizing, also known as size inflation, and I believe another term I at this time can't recall. Can you? or maybe you Dave?
As I have read or understood it this is when 1 to 3 inches are added to Garments but the size is listed at the size with the inches not added to it, so those 30 inch jeans you love so much may really be 33 inch jeans or even bigger:( I don't want to speak in definite, but why would they do this? (and in now way am I saying anyone including and up to Universal Designs Ltd is purposely misleading anyone)
Some time in the past several decades, designers tapped into a bankable truth: We tend to feel better and buy more when we fit into a smaller size. “We put on weight and dreaded shopping because buying bigger sizes forces us to admit we have gained weight,”
Another thing I did before I took the plunge was to go to a www.cyclegear.com location to try on Different sized cycle Gear and Thankfully we were able to do this During a Visit from Dave (1o3knights) with Michael. Unfortunately no Mediums would work with my belly:( The sales person had also without having to measure said I am guessing your a 46, and he was Right. With that I took all this and the recommendations from Dave, Michael, the size of my own body and David from UD Replicas and almost completed my order and My next Step in Becoming Cobra Commander Unofficially. Yet what other connections could there be Found? My Diary of Becoming Cobra Commander "There is more to Cosplay Than just playing Dressup" Unofficially
